In the early morning of June 1, 1942, Nazi forces swept into the village of Lidice in Czechoslovakia, arrestsing the entire population including 173 men and 196 women and children. There, they carried out a bloody massacre, killing 66 people on the spot, sending 104 children to a concentration camp, where 88 perished in gas chambers, only 9 survived but were forced to become accomplices. The village of Lidice was completely erased, becoming a tragic symbol of war crimes.
At the same time, thousands of innocent children around the world were seized, tortured, lost their parents and endured many pains due to the war. To condemn this atrocity, the International Women's Conference held in the Soviet Union in 1949 decided to designate June 1 every year as International Children's Day, calling for the protection of the right to life, the right to education, and the right to play for all children around the world.
