In the history of DC comics, the Joker has always been considered Batman's arch-enemy, even though he doesn't possess any obvious superpowers. However, in Absolute Joker: Batman, one of the scariest versions of the Joker has emerged, making Batman powerless as well.
Absolute Joker: The New Terrifying Form
Absolute Joker is a unique version of the Joker in DC Comics' Absolute Batman universe, scheduled to debut in March 2026. Completely unlike traditional Jokers, he is a cold, unsmiling billionaire, hates jokes, and has many aliases.
In previous versions, the Joker was known as a crime lord with no superpowers, relying on chaos and his deranged intellect to confront Batman. However, in this clash Absolute Joker: Batman, the dynamic has completely changed.
The true form of Absolute Joker features a gigantic mouth full of fangs, unusually long limbs, and a deformed horn crest. Absolute Joker is nearly an immortal creature. With the ability to rapidly regenerate from the smallest cell, this clown cannot be killed by ordinary means.
And Batman is placed in danger greater than when facing Bane, a foe who can regenerate even when only a brain and eyes remain. But Absolute Joker, with the power to continually regenerate, becomes a being that cannot be permanently killed. This puts Batman in a situation never seen before: how to stop a being that cannot die?
Shape-Shifting Abilities and Fake Identities
According to Alfred Pennyworth (Batman's butler), the Joker has persisted across generations in Gotham by seizing the identities of members of the same family. Thanks to his regenerative abilities and shape-shifting, he always appears as a new person, but never quite perfect.
Each time the Joker "plays" a human, his face shifts a little: there is a face that looks fairly normal, even handsome; a face that resembles a skull; a face veiled in shadow, evoking that something is smiling beneath.
This makes Absolute Joker scarier than the monster form, because it shows that the demon is trying to pass as a human, and failing.
The Time-Spanning Evil Entity
Interestingly, the Absolute Universe reveals the most about Joker's past. Previously, DC proposed the theory 'Three Jokers', suggesting that three different individuals shared the Joker name. In contrast, Absolute Universe offers an even scarier idea: many people, but only one single monster.
Joker is not a man. He is an entity, a dark part of Gotham's history, wearing human faces to continue existing.
Absolute Joker: Batman is not only a confrontation between hero and villain, but a battle between humanity and an undefinable nightmare. By granting Joker the ability to shapeshift, regenerate, and exist across time, DC has turned him into the embodiment of pure evil, something even Batman cannot defeat in the traditional sense. So what will Batman have to do to protect Gotham from an enemy for whom death is simply a change of form?
